I too saw this post on twitter, but didn't engage. data privacy issues are too abstract, people don't understand data-privacy and for that matter information-security. one can even argue the point that information security is there to make sure the data being collected is accurate, which in return makes it more valuable since it is more accurate, the information-security allows for that guarantee. Since the early days of the internet I have seen information-security used as a way to get more nuanced, accurate and specific data on the end-users to address the 1993-present problem of 'On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog'.

what can an average citizen do as a result of their data being exposed by a vendor who has terms of services written, (and accepted) in such a way as to shield said vendor or even third-party from liability ?
how much time and energy can an average person using the internet be expected to spend in order to care about their data being exposed ?
